Damage from mould in the home

Mould grows in damp environments and poorly ventilated areas, with the best way to control indoor mould is to control the source of the moisture.

We have heard from many homeowners, just like you, who have experienced the challenges and issues that mould can cause, such as:

  • Discolouring and staining of walls and ceilings
  • Damage to clothing, fabrics and carpets
  • Unpleasant, musty smell and general dampness in the air
  • Costs involved with cleaning services to address mould damaged areas, dry cleaning of mould affected clothing and re-painting of stained walls and ceilings.

Health concerns from mould

It is well documented* that exposure to mould may lead to beyond acceptable health risks such as:

  • Respiratory issues
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Infections

People with allergies, asthma or other health related breathing conditions, may be particularly sensitive to mould.

How to stop mould - Reduce the relative humidity

Mould grows in damp environments and poorly ventilated areas with the best way to control indoor mould is to control the source of the moisture. In areas where the relative humidity is in excess of 60%, and/or the everyday use indoors, increases the amount of condensation (e.g. showering, cooking, clothes drying etc), you have an environment succeptible to mould growth.

  • This Wall-Mounted, Tankless, Dehumidifier, allows you to set the desired indoor relative humidity.
  • Once this is set, the unit operates when needed, to reduce the relative humidity in the home.
  • The product is tankless, with the excess moisture drained into the homes existing plumbing, or outside.

Note:

1. 33 pints equates to about 15.5 litres.

In Australian conditions the unit can remove up to 31.5L of moisture within 140 sq m (at 30 degrees celsius, 90% relative humidity)

Improve Indoor Air Quality

Prevent Mould Growth

*On-Wall model pictured*

The unit generates a balance of positive and negative ions, binding mould, bacteria and pollutants, effectively breaking them down into water vapour.

The dehumidifier helps to maintain an indoor relative humidity level of under 60%, to prevent mould growth before it starts.

Why customers love our products

Tankless design

Set & Forget Operation

Wall Mounted

The tankless IW25 dehumidifier with combined ozone-free ionization includes hands-free draining – say goodbye to those annoying reservoir tanks. The dehumidifier system drains directly into the drain or other plumbing with a gravity drainage system.

An optional integrated condensate pump is also available, to provide a complete drainage solution.

The built-in humidistat is hidden behind the tamper-proof front panel, which allows you to set and forget the humidity settings.

When the humidity setting is set to a desired setting (e.g. 55%) the unit will continue to operate until the in-home air humidity reaches the desired setting. A setting below 60% will reduce the moisture in the air and prevent mould growth from developing.

Unlike portable dehumidifiers, that sit on the ground. The IW-25 dehumidifier has various wall mounting options, to get it off the ground and out of the way.

We have installed the IW25-5 In-Wall dehumidifer and quite frankly. I love it. It is the perfect solution, works great and was easy to install. I am very happy with your product.

The unit removes a lot of moisture from the air. It also is fairly easy to install.

IXL | Innovative Dehumidifier Systems

Improving Indoor Air Quality with IXL & Innovative Dehumidifier Systems

IXL is a 5th generation family company, established in Australia since 1858 and has a proud and rich heritage in home appliances, particularly in ventilation, heating and air movement.

In collaboration with Innovative Dehumidifier Systems from the USA, IXL are now bringing the innovative Wall Mounted, Tankless, Set and Forget dehumidifier to Australian and New Zealand homes.

Innovative Dehumidifier Solutions was founded by Brian Smith, a property developer in the US, who found that a number of the rental apartments owned were experiencing mould on walls, windows and carpets and was frustrated with existing methods to deal with the mould issue.

After trial and error and gaining an understanding of the challenges with portable dehumidifiers and mould cleaning services, Brian developed a wall-mounted, tankless, set and forget solution, to reduce the relative humidity in the home, preventing mould growth.

FEATURES

How does the IW25-5 Dehumidifier work?

Dehumidification

A dehumidifier removes moisture by drawing air into the unit across a set of cold coils where it is condensed into water and allowed to drain. This dried air then passes over hot coils which make it slightly warmer.

If you have a properly sized air conditioner, you shouldn’t need a dehumidifier to lower humidity, unless the air is too humid at times when it’s too cold to run the AC. The problem today is that properly sized HVAC systems are not available for many common residential situations, creating a need for dehumidification to augment the existing HVAC system. The IW25-5 In-Wall dehumidifier provides the ideal solution to combating residential mould growth.

QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes humidity?

Humidity in homes occurs by moist surfaces drying and that moisture evaporating into the air. Many items are constantly creating moisture and eventually evaporating into the air inside our homes and properties. A family of 4 produces approximately 12 litres of moisture per day, during normal activities. Excessive moisture and humidity in a residential space can also result from any of the following if not properly controlled: Leaks, showering, hanging clothes to dry, boiling water for cooking, humid outside air, atmospheric conditions, breathing, improperly ventilated crawl space, not running the air conditioning during summer. Our self-contained, IW25-5 dehumidifier is a reliable and proven way to manage humidity and excessive moisture in homes.

How does a dehumidifier work?

A dehumidifier removes moisture by drawing air into the unit across a set of cold coils where is condensed into water and allowed to drain. The IW25-5 dehumidifier provides the ideal solution to combating residential mould growth.

Can a dehumidifier help prevent mould?

Mould is a fungus that has a preference for warm temperatures, dark environments, organic food sources (most construction materials & occupant personal belongings suffice), stagnant air, and damp environments (relative humidity of 60% +). If you can remove or eliminate any one of these items you can help prevent visible mould growth from occurring. In most scenarios, many of these items exist, and reducing their presence is beyond the control of a property owner. The IW25-5 in-wall / on-wall dehumidifier allows property owners to set a specific relative humidity range for a space (up to 140 square metres) regardless of the occupant HVAC and lifestyle, thus being a great tool to remove moisture and keep indoor relative humidity below 60%.

How easy is it to install?

The IW25 Dehumidifier is designed to be easily installed in existing or new construction properties. The chassis fits between studs 406mm in the centre and screws directly into the studs. Considerable effort was given to ensure the dehumidifier fits underneath the air return grill in new construction situations. A properly trained electrician would need to perform the necessary hardwiring (unless it is being plugged into a wall outlet)

How much electricity does the IW25 Dehumidifier use and cost to run?

The IW25 Dehumidifier by Innovative Dehumidifier Systems is rated for an average power consumption of 370W (in a 27 degree Celsius, 60%RH environment). It should be noted that the higher the ambient humidity is inside the dwelling, and the size of the dwelling, will cause the IW25 Dehumidifier to run more often, thus requiring more energy. With that in mind, if the environment required the dehumidifier to operate at a 30% utilization rate (or 8 hours per day) and the cost of electricity is between 19c and 25c per KW, it would roughly cost between 57 cents and 75 cents per day, to operate.
